Clinical Exposure: 10-15 patients daily + EMR practice. Daily well-child/baby exams, immunizations, adolescent health. Students at Glen Oaks also visit and assess pediatric inpatients and newborns in the hospital nursery.

- Clinical Responsibilities & Learning
As part of the clinical team, students will:
- Interact with diverse pediatric patients and their families
- Perform detailed pediatric history taking and physical examinations (including Well-Child & Well-Baby exams)
- Ensure vaccinations, milestones, growth, and development are up to date
- Review labs, imaging, and EMR notes
- Formulate differential diagnoses
- Create and carry out management plans under attending supervision
- At the Glen Oaks site only: Visit and assess pediatric inpatients and newborns in the hospital nursery
- Participate in discharge planning
- Work alongside attending physicians in a fully hands-on environment
- Learning Experience Overview
This combined rotation provides a unique, comprehensive hands-on pediatric clinical learning experience for medical graduates committed to becoming effective residents. It is specifically designed to prepare international medical graduates (IMGs) for the US clinical environment and USMLE pathways.
Students function as clinical learners under the supervision of two separate teaching attending physicians at two prestigious university-affiliated hospitals (University of Chicago and Rush University).
Key learning components include:
Using clinic EMR systems
Entering and managing clinical notes
Understanding the U.S. healthcare system
Working under teaching attending physicians
Exposure to a wide range of pediatric disorders (acute, chronic, developmental, and preventive care)
- Letter of Recommendation
At the end of the 4-week rotation, eligible students may request performance-based Letters of Recommendation from the respective attending physicians — one from University of Chicago-affiliated faculty and one from Rush University-affiliated faculty.
LOR 1: From Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics @ University of Chicago Medical Centre Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital.
LOR 2: From Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics @ Rush Copley Medical Centre (Rush University affiliated).
Both LORs carry official faculty designations from major academic medical centers. LORs are based on performance, sincerity, and attendance.

- 50% if the total fees paid will be refunded if rotation is canceled before 4 weeks of the start date.
